Cory JoyceRising Star Cory Joyce Focused on His Future
September 1, 2009
Mooresville, NC

17-year-old rookie standout Cory Joyce is making a name for himself this year in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, competing in the Limited Late Model division at Hickory Motor Speedway.

The New Hampshire native began his racing career at eight years old, after a friend showed Cory video of his own go kart racing experiences. Cory’s interest was immediately sparked, and he came home to tell his parents he wanted to race. After receiving his own kart as a Christmas present, Joyce started racing at Sugarhill Raceway in Weare, New Hampshire, where he competed for two years. Wasting no time in the progression of Cory’s career, his family moved from New Hampshire to Mooresville, North Carolina, in October 2005.

The next step for the Joyce family was purchasing Cory’s first late model in 2008 from NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Ron Hornaday, who has been a huge influence on Joyce’s racing career ever since. Along some other mentors such as Justin Lofton, ARCA RE/MAX Series standout, and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series crew chief Kevin Manion, Joyce counts on close friends to supplement his learning curve.

“The late model obviously has a lot more power and weight than a go kart, so there are a lot of changes in my driving style that I’ve had to make,” said the young driver. “Most of the driving differences are because of the weight and the suspension. It’s a lot to get used to, but I’ve had a lot of help from good friends like Hornaday and Lofton. I love what I’m doing now and everything has been going well so far.”

Among Joyce’s growth and accomplishments in his first full season in the limited late model, he has improved his qualifying abilities and gained more car control through extensive on-track time. With ten top-five finishes heading into the last races of the season, he hopes to continue his success and gain a victory before the season comes to a close.

Recently teaming up with Activ8 Communications, Cory Joyce is actively working to secure a ride in the USAR Pro Cup series for the 2010 season, and is looking to make his first starts in the NASCAR Camping World East Series as well. Activ8 is working with Cory to launch him into his future in motorsports through an effective branding and marketing campaign.

“Cory Joyce is the perfect definition of thriving young talent in our sport,” said Mike Calinoff, CEO of Activ8 Communications. “We are preparing Cory to move to the next level, and we feel that he has what it takes to build a long and successful career.”

Next up for the Cory Joyce Racing team will be the Limited Late Model Series event at Hickory Motor Speedway on Saturday, September 5th.
